Condition (used):  generally fair for age  (see below) - no dust jacket, the cover/spine has some edge/corner wear and general wear/marks/grubbiness/discolouration, there is an ink dedication to the inside back cover "March 5 187?", there is no contents/title page (the frontispiece is immediately followed by the title page and then chapter one) otherwise fair with fairly light marks commensurate with age and use - the pages are generally fair/good with light to moderate tanning throughout and occasional light foxing.

Identifying marks or labels etc:  "Macmillan & Co".

Other information: hardback without dust jacket -  a rare book believed to be a first edition with great period b/w illustrations - may be of some interest to a collector.

Approximate dimensions:  19.5cm (length).
